Collaboration Policy

It's assumed that those taking this class are doing so because of interest in the course topic and a desire to learn the material. Projects in this class are relatively difficult and often students can benefit from discussions about the project with peers in the course. With this in mind, a relaxed collaboration policy is employed in the course.

That said, it is imperative that each students' solutions to the projects be original and developed solely by them, both for the quality of the learning experience and the integrity / fairness of the system. Although there can be a fine line between constructive collaboration and plagiarism, students usually know when the line has been crossed. For example, things that are definitely wrong:


On the other hand, things that are definitely OK:

Mechanisms are in place to catch both blatant and subtle acts of cheating and plagiarism. Those caught participating, either on the giving or receiving end, will be subject to severe academic consequences (mostly like a failing grade in the class). In other words, if you're unsure about do something, ask first or just don't do it.
