My name is Andres Medina and I am a Senior Computer Engineering Major at Texas A&M University planning to graduate on May 2014.
My Research is on the behavior of multi-agent systems and in particular the implementation of sensors and information sources to help the behavior of said agents. My Faculty Mentor is Dr. Nancy Amato and my Graduate Student Mentor is Jory Denny. They both work at the Parasol Lab at Texas A&M University in the Algorithms and Applications Group in the Computer Science and Engineering Department.
Multi-agent Systems are systems in which multiple agents interact in some interesting way. We care about this type of system because for most applications an agent (i.e., a robot) will not be doing a task alone but rather will be teamed up with other agents to perform a task together. For example, a group of robots can be teamed up to explore a maze. In this case there should be a way for the robots to communicate with each other, such that they know which paths have already been explored and which paths haven’t, as well as the location of each robot as to avoid colliding against them.
My focus for this Project will be on behaviors of these multi-agent systems. A behavior is the 'visual' representation of the set of actions done by the agent. These behaviors can be, for example, exploring, pursuing/running away, find each other, etc. Behaviors play a big role in multi-agent systems because a desired behavior will dictate the way your system will act and how each individual agent will have to interact with each other.
